PostScript printers use a PPD file (PostScript PrinterDescription file) to customize the behavior of the driver for yourspecific PostScript printer. A PPD file contains information aboutthe output device, including printer-resident fonts, available mediasizes and orientation, optimized screen frequencies, screen angles, resolution, and color output capabilities. It’s important to set up the correctPPD before you print. Selecting the PPD that corresponds to yourPostScript printer or imagesetter populates the Print dialog boxwith the available settings for the output device.

The malfunction of your mac or printer may lead to the fact that you can't print a PDF file, but this is really a rare case. If there exists defects on the hardware of your mac or printer, problems won't be just confined to printing issues. InDesign's menu does not show anything from the Mac OS PPD folder unless it's a PPD in a current print queue. One possible solution for InDesign is to add the PPD file directly to the app's support files. Adobe PageMaker software is the ideal page layout program for business, education, and small- and home-office professionals who want to create high-quality publications such as brochures and newsletters.

For best printingresults, Adobe recommends that you obtain the latest version ofthe PPD file for your output device from the manufacturer. Easy built in graphic design app mac. Manyprint service providers and commercial printers have PPDs for theimagesetters they use. Be sure to store PPDs in the location specifiedby the operating system. When you print to a PostScript printer, PostScriptfile, or PDF, Illustrator automatically uses the default PPD (PostScriptPrinter Description) for that device. You can switch to a differentone to suit your needs.

Lets you select a custom PPD, such as oneprovided by your service bureau for use with the specified printer. The PPD’s filename corresponds to the printer’s or imagesetter’sname and model, and may display a .ppd file extension (dependingon how your system is set up.) Navigate to the PPD you want, selectit, and click Open.

note: Certain PPD features commonly foundin imagesetter PPDs aren’t accessible from the Illustrator Printdialog box. To set those printer-specific features, click Setup (Windows)or Printer (Mac OS) in the Print dialog box.

If you are printingAdobe Illustrator files containing overly long or complicated paths, the file may not print and you may receive limit-check error messagesfrom your printer. To simplify long, complex paths, you can splitthem into two or more separate paths. You can also change the numberof line segments used to approximate curves and adjust the printerresolution. Change the number of line segmentsused to print vector objects

Curvesin artwork are defined by the PostScript interpreter as small straightline segments; the smaller the line segments, the more accuratethe curve. As the number of line segments increases, so does thecomplexity of the curve. Depending on your printer and the amountof memory it has, a curve may be too complex for a PostScript interpreterto rasterize. In this case, a PostScript limit-check error can result, and the curve won’t print.

*For Printer, select a PostScript printer, Adobe PostScript® File, or Adobe PDF.

*Select Graphics on the left side of the Print dialogbox.

*Deselect Automatic, and use the Flatness slider to setthe accuracy of curves.

A lower setting (toward Quality) creates more, smallerstraight line segments, more closely approximating the curve. Ahigher setting (toward Speed) results in longer and fewer line segments, creating a less accurate curve, but improving performance.

Illustrator treats split paths in the artworkas separate objects. To change your artwork once paths are split, you must either work with the separate shapes or rejoin the pathsto work with the image as a single shape.

It’s a good ideato save a copy of your original artwork before splitting paths. That way, you still have the original, unsplit file towork with if needed.

*

*

To split a stroked path, use the Scissorstool .

*

To split a compound path, choose Object >Compound Paths > Release to remove the compound path. Then break the path into pieces using the Scissors tool, and redefinethe pieces as compound paths.

*

To split a mask, choose Object > ClippingMask > Release to remove the mask. Then break the pathinto pieces using the Scissors tool, and redefine the pieces asmasks.

Tip: To rejoin a path after you split it,select all of the split paths that made up the original object, and click the Add To Shape Area button in the Pathfinderpanel. The path is rejoined, with an anchor point placed at eachintersection where a split path was reconnected.

Printer-resident fonts are fontsstored in a printer’s memory or on a hard drive connected to theprinter. Type 1 and TrueType fonts can be stored either on the printeror on your computer; bitmap fonts are stored only on your computer. Illustratordownloads fonts as needed, provided they are installed on your computer’shard disk.

*For Printer, select a PostScript printer, Adobe PostScript® File, or Adobe PDF.

*Select Graphics on the left side of the Print dialogbox, and select a Download option:

Includes a reference to the font in the PostScript filewhich tells the RIP or a post-processor where the font should beincluded. This option is appropriate if the fonts reside in theprinter. TrueType fonts are named according to the PostScript namein the font; however, not all applications can interpret these names. To ensure that TrueType fonts are interpreted correctly, use oneof the other font downloading options.

note: Somefont manufacturers restrict the embedding of font files. Restrictions applyto copying font software. You are required to comply with applicablecopyright law and the terms of your license agreement. For fontsoftware licensed from Adobe, your license agreement provides thatyou may take a copy of the font(s) you have used for a particularfile to a commercial printer or other service provider, and the serviceprovider may use the font(s) to process your file, provided theservice provider has informed you that it has the right to use thatparticular software. For other font software, please obtain permissionfrom your vendor.

Whenyou print to a PostScript or PDF file, Illustrator automaticallyselects the PostScript level of your output device. If you wantto change the Postscript level or data format for PostScript files,do the following:

*For Printer, select Adobe PostScript® Fileor Adobe PDF.

*Select Graphics on the left side of the Print dialogbox.

*For PostScript, select the level of compatibility withthe interpreters in PostScript output devices.

Level 2 improves the printing speed and output qualityof graphics printed on a PostScript Level 2 or greater output device.Level 3 provides the best speed and output quality on a PostScript3 device.

*(Optional) If you chose Adobe PostScript® Fileas the printer, select a Data Format option to specify how Illustratorsends the image data from your computer to a printer.

Binary exports the image data as binary code, which ismore compact than ASCII but may not be compatible with all systems.ASCII exports the image data as ASCII text, which is compatiblewith older networks and parallel printers and is usually the bestchoice for graphics used on multiple platforms. It is also usually thebest choice for documents used only on Mac OS.  More like this Adobe Pdf For Macbook
